Updated: July 07, 2026

The water supply project in the small Kenyan town of Nandi Hills passed its final acceptance inspection on June 26. The project, constructed by China Railway No.10 Engineering Group Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Railway Group Limited, stands as a testament to China-Kenya friendship and serves as an example of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation.

The Nandi Hills Water Supply Project is one of Kenya's six major public water infrastructure projects. It includes a new water treatment plant, an extensive water distribution network, public sanitation facilities, and the upgrading of an existing water treatment plant. Within three years of its completion, it is expected to benefit approximately 100,000 residents in Nandi County.

Since entering trial operations a year ago, the project has supplied an average of 250,000 liters of clean tap water daily. It has helped end the long-standing reliance of many local communities on untreated surface water and reduced the need for residents to travel long distances to collect water. Thanks to improved access to clean water, local production and living conditions have improved and waterborne diseases have been effectively controlled.

The water supply project not only provides safe drinking water for local people, but also injects new momentum into the regional economic and social development. A stable and reliable water supply facilitates the development of rural husbandry and family workshops, thereby creating opportunities for local people to pursue happiness and prosperity.
