Sinopharm’s Smart TCM Factory Included in Global Lighthouse Network

Updated: June 30, 2026

Taiji Group Chongqing Fuling Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China National Pharmaceutical Group Co., Ltd. (Sinopharm), became the world’s first traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) producer included in the Global Lighthouse Network on June 22. This was announced at the 17th Annual Meeting of the New Champions, also known as the Summer Davos of the World Economic Forum (WEF).

Selected by the WEF, the Global Lighthouse Network recognizes manufacturing sites that lead the world in smart manufacturing and digitalization. They are inspiring examples for the digital, intelligent and green transformation of the global manufacturing sector.

The TCM factory has long been absent from the selection. However, the inclusion of the Sinopharm subsidiary not only fills that gap, but also marks the formal entry of modern TCM manufacturing onto the global stage of advanced smart production.

Taiji Group Chongqing Fuling Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. has established a fully digital, end-to-end production system covering raw herb processing, extraction and concentration as well as finished dosage formulation. It can make 100 million bottles of syrup and 3 billion units of oral liquid annually.

Taiji Medicine City, the company’s production base, consists of two zones. Zone A houses 12 fully automated high-speed filling lines and 15 same-type packaging lines dedicated to oral liquid formulations. Zone B focuses on primary processing, extraction, concentration, and alcohol-based refining of TCM materials. Leveraging centralized control, intelligent scheduling, full-process quality traceability, and lean manufacturing practices, the site ensures consistent product quality and operational excellence.

Sinopharm intends to continue to align cutting-edge technologies, such as artificial intelligence and big data, with the TCM production landscape. It will refine its tiered cultivation system for smart TCM manufacturing, systematically distilling replicable and scalable best practices in digital and intelligent transformation.

By doing so, Sinopharm aims to sustainably drive the high-quality development of the TCM industry and inject renewed vitality into its growth.
