The United Capital Fertilizer Urea Plant, the first modernized urea plant in Southeast Africa, successfully produced qualified urea 44 days earlier than expected.
The urea plant is an EPCC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning) project of Wuhuan Engineering Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China National Chemical Engineering Group Corporation Ltd. This is also the first EPCC fertilizer project undertaken by a Chinese enterprise in sub-Saharan Africa.

The urea plant, located in Lusaka, the capital of Zambia, is expected to produce 180,000 metric tons of synthetic ammonia and 300,000 tons of urea annually. With its full application of Chinese techniques and equipment, it is in compliance with strict Chinese standards, becoming another landmark structure that is built with Chinese comprehensive services.
To build it, a total of 252 tons of equipment was transported across southern Africa, setting a new record. All auxiliary services have been provided by China, advancing the spread of Chinese standards on the African continent.
Once operational, the urea plant will provide over 2,000 long-term stable jobs, advancing local economic and social development. It will significantly alleviate Zambia’s fertilizer shortage, facilitating the development of local industry and agriculture.
