China Unicom Global Limited (China Unicom) unveiled its international communications gateway exchange in Harbin, the capital of Northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province, and launched the China-Russia Cross-Border Link.
The gateway exchange is the first regional international communications hub in Northeast China that is oriented toward Russia’s Far East and Europe. It is also a critical bridgehead for the cooperation between China and Russia and for collaboration within Northeast Asia.
Once operational, the gateway exchange will provide smart, diverse communication services at home and abroad, supporting high-bandwidth transmission. It can shorten the communication distance from the European part of Russia to Vladivostok, a port city in the country’s southeastern region, and reduce transmission latency.
To enhance the service capacity, China Unicom is equipping the gateway exchange with a new set of international Optical Transport Network equipment, an advanced transmission system. The company is also stretching the system from the Harbin gateway exchange to two border communication stations in the cities of Fuyuan and Heihe, forming a “1+2” network architecture. The project was completed and put into operation in just two months from initial planning to launch.
The China-Russia Cross-Border Link can achieve 10-gigabit-bandwidth access to various scenarios, such as cross-border e-commerce, data processing, remote education and telemedicine. This offers Heilongjiang-based enterprises a safe, efficient and compliant digital bridge for expanding overseas and engaging in international trade.
The Harbin gateway exchange and the China-Russia Cross-Border Link can coordinate with each other, strengthening Heilongjiang’s northbound cross-border connectivity.
