The section recently made operational is 26.5 kilometers with four highway interchanges that span the railway at eight stations.

The Ikeja interchange bridge located in downtown Ikeja, the capital of Lagos, spans over two standard gauge rail lines and one narrow gauge line and is now in operation. It is the largest of the four interchange bridges of the project, with a length of 615 meters and a total of 30 spans.

The Red Line project is expected to effectively relieve traffic pressure in downtown Lagos, while improving travel experience for local residents. It will also play a key role in construction of a network based on the Red and Blue lines, the Lagos-Ibadan Railway and Lagos International Airport.

China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, a subsidiary of China Railway Construction Corporation Limited, was responsible for the project.
