The offshore installation of the second new platform for the Ledong 22-1 gas field comprehensive adjustment project in the Yinggehai waters was recently completed. With all its new platforms now in place, the project — the nation’s first secondary development of an offshore marginal gas field cluster — has made major progress.

The Ledong cluster — comprising the Ledong 22-1, Ledong 15-1 and Ledong 10-1 gas fields — is a key part of the Dongfang complex of gas fields. It is China’s first offshore marginal gas field cluster and one of the main gas sources safeguarding residential and industrial supply in Hainan Province.

To sustain output from mature fields and raise recovery rates at marginal ones, the project combines new and existing facilities and leverages existing infrastructure. Two new jacket platforms for the entire adjustment project are interconnected through a multiphase pipeline and a submarine cable, so as to enable coordinated operations and maximize the potential of the mature fields.

The aforementioned second new platform is a production support platform that integrates systems for natural gas processing, compression and separation, which is connected to the first one via a trestle bridge.
In the face of challenging offshore conditions, the project team strengthened construction planning and safety management and carried out lifting operations with precision, in order to ensure the platform’s successful installation.

Once operational, the project will further unlock production capacity of oil and gas in the relevant blocks, providing stable and reliable energy support for the Hainan Free Trade Port’s economic development.
