The charging volume on the platform of Smart Internet of Vehicles under State Grid Corporation of China (State Grid) surpassed 249 million kilowatt-hours during the National Day holiday from October 1 to 7.
The average daily charging volume exceeded 35.59 million kWh, up 18.05 percent year-on-year. Notably, the average daily charging volume on China’s expressways reached 10.89 million kWh, shooting up 26.19 percent year-on-year. Both hit record highs.
To ensure efficient and convenient travel for new energy vehicle drivers during the National Day holiday, State Grid Smart Internet of Vehicles Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of State Grid, relied on the data of the aforementioned platform to select 5,294 charging stations at service areas, near highway entrances and exits and in the vicinity of scenic spots to ensure their smooth operation.
The company carried out special equipment inspections, eliminated potential faults, deployed emergency EV chargers and issued charging guides and peak-hour forecasts via the “e-charging” APP to help drivers plan their routes in a reasonable manner.

Throughout the holiday, the company monitored congestion forecasts at expressway service areas each day and correspondingly relocated emergency charging facilities. It remotely monitored key charging stations in real time via video surveillance systems to promptly identify irregularities and assigned its staff members to provide on-site traffic guidance. Measures including issuing on-site queuing tickets were adopted to guide orderly charging, so as to improve the utilization efficiency of public charging resources and effectively ease queuing pressure at expressway service area charging stations.
