The early reopening marks a milestone in the Sengkang-Punggol LRT Depot Expansion and Upgrade Project. As a core contractor of the project, China Railway Electrification Engineering Group Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Railway Group Limited, completed critical works including provision, installation and commissioning of power supply systems and equipment along the route, as well as cable laying, relocation and upgrading.

The renovation project for the Sengkang West LRT inner loop is an integral part of the Sengkang-Punggol LRT Depot Expansion and Upgrade Project and a key livelihood-related infrastructure initiative in Singapore.
The renovation project got underway on April 19 in a full-closure state, designed to support the expansion of the existing Sengkang-Punggol LRT depot. By improving infrastructure such as power supply facilities and track linkage, the project improved the transport capacity of the light rail to meet the growing passenger travel demand in the region.
The overall Sengkang-Punggol LRT Depot Expansion and Upgrade Project is scheduled to achieve full completion in 2027. Upon completion, the average transport capacity of the entire Sengkang-Punggol LRT will rise by 30 percent, boosting public transportation capacity and convenience in northeastern Singapore.
