Nuozhadu Hydropower Plant of Huaneng Lancang River Hydropower Inc., a subsidiary of China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd., reached cumulative power generation of 300 billion kilowatt-hours on September 24. This is equal to saving nearly 100 million metric tons of standard coal and cutting carbon dioxide emissions by more than 230 million tons.
The power plant is a backbone power source for China’s initiatives of West-to-East Power Transmission as well as the power transmission from Yunnan Province to neighboring areas both inside and outside China. Besides power generation, it also delivers other benefits in fields such as flood control, irrigation, aquaculture and tourism.
All of its nine generating units are premium, capable of transmitting an average of 23.912 billion kWh of clean electricity annually.

Located on the border between Simao District and Lancang Lahu Autonomous County in the city of Pu’er, the power plant ranks as the fifth station in the “two reservoirs and eight hydropower stations” cascade development plan for the middle and lower reaches of the Lancang River.
As the largest hydropower station in Southwest China’s Yunnan Province, it has a total installed capacity of 5.85 gigawatts and a total reservoir storage capacity of 23.703 billion cubic meters, which is 16 times the water storage volume of Dianchi Lake.

Since entering operation, it has maintained safe and stable operation for 5,151 consecutive days, with a 100-percent success rate for more than 10,000 unit start-stop operations. It has injected strong green momentum into safeguarding national energy security and advancing high-quality economic and social development in Yunnan.
