The world’s first 325,000-deadweight-ton methanol dual-fuel ore carrier, equipped with the world’s first digital vessel delivery system, was officially named Yuan Hai Si Lu in Yangzhou, East China’s Jiangsu Province on September 1.

The vessel was built by COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. and operated by COSCO Shipping Bulk Co., Ltd., which are both subsidiaries of China COSCO SHIPPING Corporation Limited. The vessel, which measures 339.9 meters in length and has a moulded width of 62 meters, can carry 325,000 tons of iron ore in a single voyage.
Traditionally, ship owners receive piles of drawings, certificates and equipment manuals and often find such scattered information difficult to access. However, the digital vessel delivery system reconstructs a full-ship 3D model, so that with a single click, ship owners can get access to associated drawings, certificates, equipment records, maintenance schedules and spare parts lists. In other words, they obtain not only a giant vessel, but also a complete, accurate and traceable digital asset.
The vessel can sail 20,000 nautical miles fueled by a single bunker of methanol. When powered entirely by methanol, it cuts carbon emissions by approximately 50,000 tons annually, the equivalent of planting 2.9 million trees. Sulphur oxide emissions are nearly eliminated, and nitrogen oxide emissions are substantially reduced.
