China’s Drilling Machinery Producer Forges Ahead in Global Market

Updated: August 26, 2026

Heilongjiang Northern Shuangjia Drilling Machinery Co., Ltd., a secondary subsidiary of China North Industries Group Corporation Limited, secured international orders worth 117.95 million yuan ($17.54 million) in the first half of 2026, a year-on-year increase of 47 percent.

From Repeated Rejections to Additional Orders

The company first launched its global expansion in the resource-rich Middle East. Lacking market access and overseas brand recognition, it dispatched a pioneer team to the region with product samples. Although the team was unable to secure meetings with five prospective clients on its first day of visits, its sales staff collected client information at exhibitions and made door-to-door visits one after another. It eventually made its way into the local market.

The company’s tools struggled to adapt to local working conditions, as the oil fields in the Middle East have high formation pressure and high sulfur content. To compete head-to-head with established European and American products, the company had to upgrade its technologies for localized adaptation.

Over more than a month, the team conducted on-site visits to collect accurate parameters of overseas products resistant to high temperatures and corrosion. Working around the clock, they revised designs, adjusted production techniques, and developed over 100 customized solutions.

What really impressed overseas clients was the company’s thoughtful after-sales services. Its after-sales team monitored downhole data in real time and submitted weekly wear condition reports, identifying potential faults even before the clients themselves could.

A Middle Eastern client, slow to warm up since the first purchase in 2025, later became highly cooperative and recently placed a new order for 12 jars. The trust stemmed from the outstanding performance of the four custom-made jars it ordered last year, which had operated continuously in oil fields for 187 days without a single fault.

Having built a solid reputation across the region, the company now sees a steady influx of overseas orders, with a repurchase rate exceeding 85 percent.

Decades of Technical Development

The company’s global market expansion is underpinned by its expertise in manufacturing petroleum drilling and production tools accumulated over 20 years and more than 40 core patents.

Today, it holds a total of 45 patents, including 10 invention patents. Its core products, such as jars and stabilizers, have been listed as industry-famous products, capable of replacing imported alternatives.

The company has engaged in research, development and production of petroleum drilling tools since the 1970s. After decades of development, it has built a comprehensive product portfolio spanning more than 10 product lines, hundreds of types and thousands of specifications. These products are widely used in onshore and offshore oil fields across China and are exported to dozens of countries and regions in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Europe, the Americas and Africa.

Collaborative Model Enhances Efficiency

Overseas orders typically involve small quantities, frequent batches, and tight delivery schedules, with some orders requiring delivery in as little as 15 days. To efficiently meet market demands, the company outsourced primary processing work to local enterprises and cooperated with Northeast Forestry University and Northeast Petroleum University to upgrade its products. This innovative cooperation model cut the company’s delivery cycle by 40 percent and doubled its production capacity without heavy investment in building new factories.

Meanwhile, the company accelerated digital transformation and upgrades. Its digital workshop adopted PLC control systems, achieving full automation of all production procedures.

Since the beginning of this year, the company has focused on increasing its presence in three core overseas markets, the Middle East, pan-Russian regions and Southeast Asia, and has actively explored emerging markets in Europe and the Americas. Up to now, the company has attracted more than 20 new overseas clients.

Rooted in Mudanjiang, a city in Northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province, and embracing the world, the company has made remarkable achievements in the global market by developing techniques and rolling out hundreds of customized solutions over the past decades. It is writing a wonderful chapter of its overseas success.
