The Lianyungang-Huai’an section of the Lianyungang-Yizheng crude oil pipeline, a key national oil and gas infrastructure project, was successfully put into operation on its first attempt on August 13.
As the first 10-million-ton-class crude oil pipeline put into operation in the inaugural year of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) period, it plays a vital role in optimizing the energy supply structure of central and eastern China and improving the layout of the national oil and gas pipeline network.
The pipeline is connected to the operational Rizhao-Yizheng pipeline and delivers crude oil to the Yizheng Station, the core crude oil hub in eastern China. It can transport up to 70,000 metric tons of crude oil daily, providing reliable energy support for petrochemical enterprises in Jiangsu Province and along the Yangtze River.
The Lianyungang-Huai’an section connects the pump stations in Lianyungang and Huai’an, two cities in Jiangsu. It spans 143.8 kilometers and is designed to have an annual crude oil throughput of 18.5 million tons. The entire section is equipped with 2 process stations and 6 block valve chambers.
China Oil & Gas Pipeline Network Corporation employed automatic, continuous welding during its construction to ensure high-quality delivery of the project. The project team adopted targeted methods, such as pre-drainage, to tackle construction challenges posed by flow-plastic silt layers, in order to eliminate barriers to the operation of heavy-duty equipment.
In the project's longest and most challenging control engineering task —the crossing of the Xinyi River and Guanhe River — the project team innovatively adopted a combination of directional drilling and internal beach connection crossing techniques, completing the key passage for the entire project 12 days ahead of schedule.
