Sinopec Builds World’s Largest Single-Site High-End PVA Production Base

Updated: August 14, 2026

Sinopec Chongqing SVW Chemical Co., Ltd., a China Petrochemical Corporation subsidiary located in Changshou district of Southwest China’s Chongqing municipality, recently began operations on a new state-of-the-art polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) resin production line, establishing itself as the world’s largest single-site producer of high-end PVA.

With the new line, which has an annual capacity of 50,000 metric tons, the company’s total PVA production capacity has increased to 210,000 tons per year.

Notably, the first products from this new facility have already been exported to Europe.

Its commissioning will greatly strengthen the independence of China’s key industrial chains, including photovoltaic, electronic and optical film sectors.

PVA is an indispensable, biodegradable raw material for high-value sectors like textiles, construction and pharmaceuticals. This new line incorporates an innovative polymerization process along with proprietary alcoholysis and precision purification technologies, enabling mass-produced PVA to meet international high-end standards.

The project team has overcome multiple technical challenges, including precise temperature control and stable quality regulation, and has equipped the production line with four sets of tail gas and wastewater recycling facilities alongside an intelligent packaging system. Through this, the facility’s production capacity is 40 percent higher than previous equipment, achieving a high-end, intelligent and environmentally friendly production process.
