The Tarim Phase Ⅱ ethylene project and its supporting green and low-carbon facilities, developed by Dushanzi Petrochemical Company, a subsidiary of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), were put into operation on July 16.
This is China’s first full-chain green and low-carbon project to enter operation and it has an annual ethylene production capacity of 1.2 million metric tons.

The project is located at Korla, a county-level city in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It is China’s first demonstration project in the petrochemical industry that adheres to green and low-carbon development philosophy throughout its overall production chain.
Ten of its 11 major production units employ domestic technologies, including nine independently developed by CNPC. The project also marks the first application of three domestically manufactured large-scale extrusion pelletizing units.
The commissioning of the project marks the completion of Central and West China’s first ethylene industrial base with an annual capacity of 3 million tons. This will reshape an industry landscape where ethylene production capacity has been historically concentrated in the eastern regions while the western regions have faced limited feedstock supply, and thus bolster the resilience of the nation’s industrial chain and supply chain of the energy and petrochemical sectors.
