A 9,000-deadweight-ton special liquid cargo vessel, built by China COSCO Shipping Corporation Limited (COSCO Shipping), was named the Fuzhou Bay on April 20 in Fuzhou, the capital of East China’s Fujian Province, where the vessel was built.

The Fuzhou Bay is the world’s first vessel to receive the additional class notation for three-dimensional model digital delivery, marking a shift in the shipbuilding industry from 2D blueprints to the 3D digital creation. The ship is equipped with three intelligent systems related to safety, ship operations and crew management that can be used in all scenarios, such as visual enhancement, collision avoidance alerts, water rescue, and ship inspection through virtual reality.
The 119.8-meter-long vessel, with a design speed of 13 knots and a range of 12,000 nautical miles, has been classed by the China Classification Society (CCS). The ship has a newly designed low-resistance hull form and is equipped with multiple energy-saving devices, achieving leading performance in energy efficiency and emission reduction in the industry. The vessel complies with the IMO Tier III nitrogen oxide emission standards. It can transport a variety of liquid cargoes, such as asphalt, through its specially designed cargo tanks, meeting diverse needs of customers.
The vessel received four crucial additional notations from CCS: Digital Delivery (HM, ED) — denoting 3D digital delivery of the vessel’s 3D model and associated data; Underwater Noise 2 (10-100 Hz) & Underwater Noise 1 (100-100,000 Hz) — denoting compliance with underwater radiated noise limits; Biodiesel Fuel — denoting readiness for the use of biodiesel fuel blends; i-ship (E) — denoting intelligent energy efficiency management capabilities.
It is also China’s first low-noise commercial cargo ship that is classified by the CCS, demonstrating COSCO Shipping’s ESG responsibilities and pursuit.
COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers Co, Ltd, a subsidiary of COSCO Shipping, owns more than 10 vessels that can transport special liquid cargo, with their carrying capacities of 6,000 dwt, 7,500 dwt, and 13,000 dwt.
The 9,000-dwt vessels, including the Qinzhou Bay that was named and delivered in January, will further increase the company’s capacity of transporting liquid commodities and advance its building of a digital and environmentally friendly fleet.
