As of April 16, China’s first hydrogen refueling station along a heavy haul railway, the Batuta Hydrogen Refueling Station, has refueled more than 10,000 kilograms of hydrogen. This marks a milestone in China’s large-scale use of hydrogen energy in the heavy haul railway sector. The station is built by China Energy Investment Corporation Co., Ltd., in Ordos, North China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

The Batuta Hydrogen Refueling Station can supply 500 kg of hydrogen daily for high-power hydrogen-powered shunting locomotives and zero-emission catenary maintenance vehicles powered by hydrogen fuel cell and lithium battery system.
The hydrogen refueling station, equipped with a large-flow hydrogen dispensing system and other advanced devices, has a storage capacity of 800 kg, with a maximum refueling flow rate of 7.2 kg per minute.
The station can be automatically reset and can report malfunctions through a smart monitoring system, increasing the operational efficiency and ensuring safe production.
