CGN Power’s On-Grid Electricity Hits 232.648 Billion KWh in 2025

Updated: April 17, 2026

CGN Power Co., Ltd. (CGN Power), a subsidiary of China General Nuclear Power Corporation, held its 2025 earnings conference on March 26.

In 2025, its 28 operating units maintained safe and stable performance, achieving zero unplanned shutdowns. The company delivered 232.648 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to the grid. Six new power units were under construction.

CGN Power achieved great development during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period. Over the past five years, 16 nuclear power units under its management have been approved, 10 power units have seen the first concrete poured for the nuclear island, and 10 nuclear power bases are operating or under construction.

The “Hualong One” (the independently developed third-generation nuclear technology) demonstration project has been completed, facilitating the mass application of this technology.

The total installed capacity of operating and under-construction nuclear power units under the management of the company increased from about 35.35 million kW at the end of 2020 to about 56.06 million kW.. Cumulative on-grid electricity generation has exceeded 1.07 trillion kWh during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, equivalent to reducing nearly 992 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

CGN Power delivered great performances in safe operation, technological innovation and annual revenues in 2025, the last year of the 14th Five-Year Plan period.

Safe operation

In 2025, its 28 operating nuclear power units achieved zero unplanned shutdowns, with 85 percent of the World Association of Nuclear Operators Performance Indicators reaching the world’s advanced level. The average capacity factor of these units reached nearly 93 percent, maintaining a high and stable level, and none of the operating units recorded any events rated Level 1 or above on the International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale.

In 2025, CGN Power generated 232.648 billion kWh of electricity for the grid, increasing by 2.36 percent year on year. These units effectively provided safe, reliable, and efficient clean power to the regions served.

Ongoing construction

In 2025, the construction of No 5 and 6 power units of the Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Plant in South China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and of No 3 and 4 power units of the Taishan Nuclear Power Plant in South China’s Guangdong Province, was approved. The first concrete was poured for the nuclear island for six units, including No 1 and 2 in Guangdong’s Lufeng Nuclear Power Plant. CGN Power also got operating licenses and completed initial fuel loading for the No 1 unit of the Taipingling Nuclear Power Plant in Guangdong and the No 1 unit of the San’ao Nuclear Power Plant in East China’s Zhejiang Province.

Technological innovation

In 2025, CGN Power’s South China Atomic Energy Scientific and Technological Innovation Center, a hub for original cutting-edge nuclear technologies, was extended under a “one headquarters with multiple bases” layout. The center provides experimental support for the iterative upgrading of the “Hualong One” technology and the R&D of advanced reactor designs and a full spectrum of product systems.

CGN Power launched the 2.0 version of the “Hualong One” technology with technological upgrading to enhance safety and quality while reduceing costs. The commercialization of the technology is underway.

Economic gains

While ensuring production safety and quality, CGN Power implemented targeted cost-control strategies to manage expenses effectively. In 2025, it recorded operating revenue of more than 75.69 billion yuan ($11.03 billion), with net profit attributable to shareholders of more than 9.76 billion yuan, and this number came to about 9.11 billion yuan when excluding the non-recurring gains and losses.
