[New Year, New Start] World’s First 630°C Ultra-supercritical Double-reheat Power Project Completes Debugging

Updated: April 07, 2026

On March 10, the debugging of the world’s first 630°C ultra-supercritical double-reheat national demonstration power project was completed. The project, built by China Datang Corporation Limited in Yuncheng County, Shandong Province, is ready for operation.

The power project uses new, domestically developed materials and technologies, raising the temperature of coal-fired generating units to 630°C and bringing the thermal efficiency of electricity generation above 50 percent. Its two generating units have the highest pressure, temperature and efficiency, and the lowest coal consumption of any single-shaft, 1,000-megawatt double-reheat thermal power generating unit in the world.

Compared with the standard 1,000-megawatt generating units, the new power project will be able to save about 208,000 tons of standard coal and reduce nearly 540,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions every year when it starts up. It can effectively generate power while protecting the environment, thus providing support and an example for China’s energy structure upgrading and the achievement of the carbon peaking and neutrality goals.
