Workers of the Chinese company Xinxing Cathay International Group launched a range of activities to celebrate Spring Festival at the sites of overseas projects.
Celebration in Indonesia
On the eve of the Chinese New Year, Chinese and Indonesian employees exchanged toasts of "Happy New Year" in Chinese, amid the brilliant lighting of the camp of PT Mitra Stania Prima. Cheerful conversations filled the air and employees danced together around the bonfire after dinner.
“This is the first time I have experienced the Chinese New Year celebration,” an Indonesian employee said excitedly. “It’s very jolly. I like the Chinese New Year.”
In the dining hall, Chinese employees taught their Indonesian counterparts to make jiaozi, Chinese dumplings, and explained the cultural connotation of this special food, which embodies unity and well-being. With smiles on their faces, they savored the hot, delicious dumplings after boiling them in a pot.
Celebration in Egypt
Spring Festival elements were everywhere at a front-line construction site of Xinxing Cathay International Group in Egypt. Auspicious couplets were pasted on doors, fu (happiness in Chinese) characters were glued on walls and red lanterns were hung alongside corridors.
Egyptian employees were deeply interested in jiaozi and tried to make them. Upon learning the connotation of this food, they gave a thumbs-up and became enthusiastic about Chinese culture.
“Despite the limitations, we hope that both the Chinese and foreign employees can feel the atmosphere of Spring Festival through these simple yet ceremonial activities, and Egyptian employees can have a better understanding of Chinese culture,” the project leader said.
The Spring Festival celebration finished, but cultural exchanges and activities stimulating unity continued. The Indonesian employees said they feel closer to Chinese coworkers after participating in the celebration, and Egyptian employees hoped they could participate in more activities like that to enhance mutual understanding of the two countries’ cultures.
The overseas project leader of Xinxing Ductile Iron Pipes Co., Ltd. expressed commitment to enhancing communication with foreign employees through cultural exchanges and activities. He also said that workers will stick to their posts and contribute more to the high-quality development of the company’s overseas projects.
