The T3 terminal of Sanya Phoenix International Airport, built by China Construction Third Engineering Bureau Co., Ltd, has started operation recently. The terminal, located in Sanya, South China’s Hainan Province, is crucial for the island-wide special customs operations in Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP). The construction of the T3 terminal main building and other supporting structures will further enhance the comprehensive capacity of the airport.

As a pioneering project in the Hainan FTP’s airport cluster, the T3 terminal is designed to handle 18 million passengers annually. It features a mixed-flow design for arrivals and departures, ensuring integrated operations with the existing T1 and T2 terminals.

It took 17 months to build the terminal, 40 percent faster than the usual building time of similar terminals. China Construction Third Engineering Bureau Co., Ltd has adopted 5G, cloud computing and big data technologies to efficiently and precisely manage the construction process. It has also harnessed smart construction techniques, such as three-dimensional laser scanning, to achieve high-quality construction.

The terminal is designed to be environmentally friendly and to reduce energy consumption. Equipped with photovoltaic power-generating glass, sponge city system and high-efficiency electrical systems, it can save more than 20 percent of energy.

The total area of the airport reaches 228,000 square meters with the T3 terminal in operation. Hainan FTP thus has more advantages to become an international tourism and consumption center and an aviation hub.
