On January 17, the first shipment of nearly 200,000 tons of iron ore from Guinea’s Simandou arrived at Majishan Port, Shengsi County, Zhejiang Province.
Departing from Morébaya Port in South Guinea, the vessel “WINNING YOUTH” sailed 10,958 nautical miles over 46 days before berthing at the Majishan Port which is managed by China Baowu Steel Group Corporation Limited (China Baowu). The smooth and stable delivery from the mine in West Africa to a domestic port along the Yangtze River will significantly bolster China's iron ore supply.
The Simandou iron ore mine project, completed last November, is supposed to produce 120 million tons of high-grade iron ore annually once it reaches full capacity. While invigorating the mine’s production, Baowu Resources Co., Ltd (Baowu Resources), a subsidiary of China Baowu, has coordinated mining activities with available transportation, such as railway capacity and shipment schedules, to optimize logistics efficiency. By developing infrastructure and linking ships to and from ports in open sea routes, coastal ports and the Yangtze River, Baowu Resources has created a competitive logistics network that ensures superior iron ore shipments are seamlessly transported to China’s factories. Its comprehensive service and marketing system supports rising global demand.
Zhejiang Shengsi Baojie International Ship Agency Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of Baowu Resources, worked with officials from maritime, customs and border inspection departments to establish a coordinated inspection plan. Upon the vessel’s arrival, the necessary inspections and subsequent operations started immediately without interruption.
Under a refined customs supervision system that allows special boat escort, drone-delivered samplings and online customs clearance, the ship completed necessary procedures smoothly and was granted clearance swiftly, ensuring the security, speed and reliability of the supply chain.
