Recently, a batch of Hewlett-Packard electronic products successfully completed a trial run of the first cross-border multimodal shipment from China to Thailand via the Lancang-Mekong Express on the China-Laos Railway. The entire transport operation was fully supported by COSCO Shipping Logistics & Supply Chain Management Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China COSCO SHIPPING Corporation Limited.
These high-value-added products were assembled and uploaded in South China, and transported by road to Wangjiaying Station in Kunming, Southwest China’s Yunnan Province, for subsequent rail transit. There, the cargo were loaded directly onto the Lancang-Mekong Express for transit to Vientiane, the capital of Laos. Finally, Thailand’s road network enabled last-mile delivery, ensuring an efficient, smooth and stable cross-border multimodal transport process.
This route reduces transit time by over 70 percent compared to traditional ocean shipping. By utilizing containers throughout the process, it streamlined handling process and minimized cargo damage, maintaining a loss rate below 0.1 percent. The safe, cost-effective and timely transport solution, tailored for high-end electronic products, is recommended for similar high-value goods.
The client lauded the trial shipment for its comprehensive and coordinated cross-border logistics services, which led to the signing of formal cooperation agreements. In the future, infrastructure along the express route will be further developed, and supporting services will be enhanced, to ensure high-quality logistics for Belt and Road cooperation.
