The SGUI, a new generation air ticket distribution system developed by China TravelSky Holding Company Limited (TravelSky), was launched to replace the “Eterm” system after nearly 30 years of service. This transition marks a significant shift from reliance on foreign technology to full independent control with domestically developed solutions in China’s civil aviation core distribution system.
Since its launch in the 1990s, the Eterm black screen terminal has been recognized for its efficiency and stability. However, its complicated user interface based on character command and reliance on core technology from foreign manufacturers posed prominent challenges. These limitations spurred the development of the SGUI, a graphical system over which China holds complete property rights.
The new SGUI system supports indigenous operating devices and servers, thereby significantly enhancing safety, usability and extensibility. Since the replacement commenced last February, TravelSky has efficiently completed a smooth and seamless switch-over across more than 40,000 terminals, covering 39 airlines and over 2,600 ticket agencies. With the full rollout of this graphical system, the civil aviation industry has bid farewell to the black screen character command interface.
