The Longchang-Luxian-Xuyong railway, a key component of China’s New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor rail service in the western region, has been put into operation and begun freight services, bringing Sichuan Province’s total railway operating mileage to over 7,000 kilometers.
Constructed by Shudao Investment Group Co., LTD, the railway begins at Longchang Station on the Chengdu-Chongqing railway in the north, and stretches southward to Xuyong North Station on the Xuyong-Bijie railway.
Adopting a design that “cut bends to straighten the line” the project shortens the original 161-kilometer route to 138 kilometers. It is also equipped with railway electrification, enabling speeds of up to 120 km/h.
The railway is primarily designed for freight transport while also accommodating passenger services. Of its 11 stations, including Longchang, Luzhou West and Xuyong North, seven are newly built and four are existing stations.
Linking the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle with Guizhou Province and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and further connecting to the Beibu Gulf Port, the route will enhance Sichuan’s southbound rail freight capacity, effectively reduce logistics costs, and play an important role in advancing the construction of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor and promoting coordinated regional economic and social development.
