The world’s first ±800 kilovolt/8 gigawatt converter valves for ultra-high voltage flexible direct current (UHVDC) power transmission independently developed by XJ Electric Corporation, a power equipment enterprise affiliated to China Electrical Equipment Group Co., Ltd., have passed trial examination, setting a new record for converter valves capacity.
Adopting 4.5 KV/5 kilo-ampere high-power IGBT modules, these valves will be applied to the Gansu-Zhejiang ±800 kV UHVDC Transmission Project.
The project, with a rated capacity of 8 GW, will enhance the large-scale use of high-quality coals and clean energy including wind and solar power in Gansu Province, and streamline electricity transmission.
Achieving many world’s firsts in fields like system building and refined control, the project will also ensure stable operation of the complex grids in Zhejiang Province by enabling the transmission of over 36 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually from Gansu to Zhejiang once completed.
The project holds profound meaning for optimizing energy structure and completing carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals.
China Electrical Equipment Group Co., Ltd. will continue to promote the development of UHVDC transmission technology, contributing its wisdom and expertise to China’s and the global clean energy transition.
