Reflecting on the 14th Five-Year Plan, China Southern Power Grid (CSG), as a central state-owned enterprise (SOE) in the energy sector, has always borne in mind the fundamental priorities of the nation. The company has fulfilled its mission through concrete actions, supported overall progress with a strong sense of responsibility, and advanced the development of new power and energy systems through the coordinated development of digitalization and green transformation, thereby injecting strong impetus into the high-quality development of the economy and society.

Strong capacity for stable supply
A series of impressive figures marks the solid strides CSG has made in scaling new heights in its power transmission capacity.
The maximum load of the entire power grid reached 270 million kilowatts, with Guangdong becoming the first province in China to exceed 160 million kW in load. The cumulative power delivered via the west-to-east power transmission project surpassed three trillion kilowatt-hours. The power supply reliability of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area has reached a world-leading standard, and the development of the national unified power market is accelerating. By the end of July 2025, the volume of interregional power support between CSG and the State Grid has exceeded 360 million kWh.
CSG honors its solemn pledge of developing the power industry for the people by overcoming various major challenges.
In fighting Super Typhoon Yagi, 40,000 CSG staff members worked relentlessly for 21 days to restore over 18,000 kilometers of medium and low-voltage transmission lines. CSG also ensured the full-time power support for the 15th National Games.
Building a modern power grid
On April 7, 2025, the VSC-HVDC project of the Sanshan Island Offshore Wind Farm in Yangjiang, Guangdong Province officially began full-scale construction. Upon commissioning, the project is expected to supply approximately six billion kWh of clean electricity to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area annually and to fundamentally resolve the challenge of transmitting large-scale offshore wind power from deep and far-reaching sea areas.
Focusing on the construction of major and new infrastructure, as well as the cultivation of new industries and growth drivers, the company is expected to invest about 740 billion yuan ($104.86 billion) in fixed assets. The role played by CSG as a stabilizer and booster for the national economy has become increasingly prominent.
In 2022, the Fujian-Guangdong Interconnection Project went into operation, enabling asynchronous interconnection between the power grids of the two provinces and creating a new model for cross-provincial power support. In 2023, the Guangdong Targeted Grid Project was completed, establishing a major power delivery framework featuring a strong core, multiple channels and mutual backup, as well as increasing the power supply capacity to 300 million kW. The construction of the 500-kilovolt Main Grid Project in Hainan Province is currently accelerating. Flexible interconnection projects, such as the Hunan-Guizhou Interconnection Project, have been launched, and the Xizang-Guangdong DC Transmission Project is about to get started.

Over the past five years, CSG has contributed to various critical national infrastructure projects. A modern, large-scale power grid featuring flexible interconnection and open, mutual support is gradually taking shape. It has invigorated the arteries for regional development, and the power supply guarantee reliability and overall load-bearing capacity of the distribution network have been significantly enhanced.
Empowering high-quality development
Since the 14th Five-Year Plan, CSG has proactively integrated into and served national strategies. As a central SOE in the energy sector, it has made its mission increasingly distinct through perseverance and hard work.
In the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, a series of notable infrastructure milestones are accelerating regional integration. Shenzhen has fully completed its ultra-large urban digital power grid, full coverage of Euro-standard (CCS2) charging facilities have been achieved across all counties and districts of the nine mainland cities, and the power supply load from the mainland to Macao has exceeded one million kW for the first time.
In western China, the coordinated development of vehicles, charging piles and grids, along with the intensified construction of high-reliability demonstration zones, is providing robust energy support for industrial upgrading in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Yunnan Province and Guizhou Province, injecting powerful momentum into the region’s development.
On the southern coast, the new-type power system is delivering tangible benefits, and the 500-kV digital grid demonstration project stands as a benchmark, providing robust momentum for the construction of the Hainan Free Trade Port.
Over the past five years, the levels of connectivity and integration of CSG’s power network have kept improving, giving shape to a landscape of positive synergy and coordinated progress.

Over the past five years, CSG has facilitated the modernization of the rural power grid, elevating it to a new level. The rural power supply reliability rate has risen to 99.9 percent, and the urban and rural power supply services have enjoyed greater equalization.
Cross-border energy cooperation has also reached a new height in the past five years. Fifteen cross-border interconnection lines have created a unique path of energy development in Southeast Asia. Construction has begun on the China-Laos 500 kV interconnection project and Pluz Energía Perú has marked its first anniversary of stable operation.
When the 14th Five-Year Plan concludes and the 15th begins, CSG will always keep in mind the national priorities and fulfill its original aspiration and mission. It is set to chart a new and inspiring chapter in the journey of Chinese modernization.
