After more than three years of construction, the Pinglu Canal project in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region is now in the final sprint with sections of the waterway already formed.

At the Madao Junction, CCCC Second Harbor Engineering Company, Ltd. has completed the topping-off of both the upstream and downstream lock heads, achieving the milestone 18 days ahead of schedule. Construction teams are now focusing on key tasks such as closing the main bridge span.

As a key landmark project of the New Western Land–Sea Corridor, the Pinglu Canal has a total investment of about 72.7 billion yuan ($10.25 billion) and stretches 134.2 kilometers from the Xijin Reservoir area in Hengzhou, Nanning to the Beibu Gulf. The canal is scheduled to open to navigation by the end of 2026.
