COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry (Dalian) Co., Ltd. has successfully delivered a 9,000-cubic-meter ethylene multipurpose transport vessel for COSCO SHIPPING Energy Transportation Co., Ltd. (COSCO SHIPPING Energy), a subsidiary of China COSCO SHIPPING Corporation Limited (COSCO SHIPPING Group), in the coastal city of Dalian, Liaoning Province recently.
The vessel, named “Xing Sheng Yuan”, is COSCO SHIPPING Group’s inaugural “ethylene-transport expert” in its fleet.
Ethylene, a vital chemical feedstock, is a gas under normal conditions and requires stringent transport conditions.
The vessel is 119.6 meters long and 19.8 meters wide, and is classified as an International Maritime Organization 2G semi-refrigerated/semi-pressurized liquefied-gas carrier. It has dual-cargo capability, allowing it to transport two different types of liquefied gases simultaneously, thus meeting diverse client needs.
Significantly, the vessel is powered by a dual-fuel main engine capable of running on either traditional fuel oil or cleaner liquefied natural gas (LNG). With an advanced exhaust-gas treatment system, the ship’s nitrogen-oxide emissions meet the highest international standards. Under fuel-oil mode, the vessel’s range is approximately 7,000 nautical miles (about 20 days); under gas-fired mode, it is about 4,000 nautical miles (about 12 days). The combined operational range thus reaches approximately 11,000 nautical miles.
The commissioning of the vessel marks a key milestone in COSCO SHIPPING Group’s advancement into the high-end transport segment of gaseous chemical products.
