Inspired by the image of a “seaside boulder”, the mixed-use cultural complex encompasses a total floor area of 188,000 square meters. It boasts nine exhibition halls with a combined display area exceeding 50,000 square meters and integrates four major functional zones: design and art exhibitions, a future design academy, multicultural spaces, and cross-boundary social venues.

The complex presented numerous unprecedented construction challenges. It includes nearly 40,000 square meters of free-form concrete structures—the largest of its kind in China—and features exhibition halls up to 27 meters high, constructed with irregular curved structures and continuous seamless shear walls extending up to 156 meters. This makes it the first large-scale free-form architectural complex of its kind in China.

Confronted with significant construction challenges, including irregular structures and curved curtain walls, the project team refined every detail with exceptional craftsmanship and precision. The architect’s philosophy of “letting curves grow freely, like plants finding their natural form” is fully realized, transforming the “seaside boulder” concept into a tangible reality and a new urban landmark.
