China Communications Construction Company Limited has built the largest Asian underground high-quality water plant in Jiangdong New Area, Haikou, Hainan Province. The plant has completed an equipment integration testing recently, successfully delivering 200,000 tons of water to local residents.

As the first high-quality drinking water project in China, the plant adopts double ultrafiltration membranes, ozone and activated carbon to remove harmful substances while retaining beneficial mineral elements. The water quality exceeds 32 national standards, reaching an internationally leading level. The plant has been established underground with commercial buildings constructed above ground — a design that optimizes land use and provides protection against typhoons.
Once operational, the plant will ensure a reliable water supply for 400,000 people in Haikou and is expected to benefit 1.2 million residents. Consequently, the water supply layout will be optimized to facilitate the construction of the Hainan Free Trade Port.
