The project can capture 1.5 million tons of carbon dioxide annually, setting a new benchmark for carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) technologies in China, which is helpful to realize the “dual carbon” goal.
This project, developed by China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd. (China Huaneng), is a vital supplementary component of the Huaneng Longdong Energy Base, China’s first multi-energy complementary base with 10,000 megawatts of capacity. It captures carbon from the flue gas after desulfurization from Unit 1 of Zhengning Power Plant, with the capture rate exceeding 90 percent. The captured carbon dioxide will be geologically stored or utilized to raise oil production and produce green fuel.
The project overcomes a number of technical challenges and achieves 100-percent application of domestic technology and equipment.
