Shekou Port Upgraded into China’s First Sea-Air Multifunctional Port

Updated: September 28, 2025

On September 23, Shekou Port in Shenzhen, operated by China Merchants Group, received official approval to launch the cross-border helicopter service. This marks that Shekou Port has become China’s first multifunctional port integrating ocean and air transportation.

This development will enhance Shenzhen’s port and low-altitude economy, accelerate the cooperation in the low-altitude sector between Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macao, and further deepen the comprehensive development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The Port will launch multiple routes, including those from Shekou to Hong Kong’s Shun Tak Heliport and Hong Kong International Airport, to cater to high-end business, emergency rescue and tourism.

The new landscape not only marks a breakthrough in building an integrated multi-modal transport system of “sea, land, air and rail”, but also plays a vital role in facilitating the flows of goods, capital and people in the Greater Bay Area and developing port and low-altitude economies.
