Updated: September 25, 2025

The China-Laos Artificial Intelligence (AI) Innovation Cooperation Center in Vientiane, built by Guangxi Investment Group in just two months, was officially launched recently.

The launch ceremony was held during the 2025 China–ASEAN Ministerial Roundtable on AI in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. As the first national-level AI application cooperation platform between China and ASEAN, the center will become a key platform for bilateral collaboration.

On the same day, the signing ceremony of the 22nd China–ASEAN Expo was held, during which 155 projects were signed. Among them, Guangxi Investment Group and the Ministry of Technology and Communications of Laos signed a Memorandum of Understanding on AI application cooperation, while Guangxi Energy Group Co., Ltd. and Laos Transmission Company Limited agreed to develop a smart grid project to support Laos’ electrolytic aluminum industry.

Going forward, the two sides will leverage Laos’ resource advantages and take the center as a hub to accelerate the application of AI in smart cities and tourism, promote integration of AI with green energy and the aluminum industry, and build an “AI + Clean Energy + Eco-Aluminum” industrial system. The initiative will also support the “R&D in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou + Integration in Guangxi + Application in ASEAN” development model and contribute to a China–ASEAN community with a shared future.
