Zhang Yuzhuo Meets with Sam Hou Fai, Macao SAR Chief Executive

Zhang Yuzhuo, Chairman of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC), met with a delegation led by Sam Hou Fai, Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), in Beijing on September 5. The two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on further supporting central state-owned enterprises (SOEs) in strengthening cooperation with enterprises in Macao and promoting the moderately diversified economic development of Macao. Li Zhen, Vice Chairman of SASAC, attended the meeting.

During the meeting, Zhang briefed the delegation on the operations and development of central SOEs in Macao, expressing gratitudes for the consistent support from the Macao SAR government.

He emphasized that central SOEs have long been committed to earnestly studying and implementing the important discourses of Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, on work related to Hong Kong and Macao, and to fully and faithfully upholding the principle of "one country, two systems". 

He noted that central SOEs have actively made investment and conducted business operations in Macao, contributing to the region’s economic development, improvement of people’s well-being and integration into the overall national development.

Going forward, Zhang said, SASAC will step up efforts to support central SOEs in making full use of the action platform for central SOEs supporting Macao's moderately diversified economic development to actively participate in the development of the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin.

Such efforts will be focused on areas such as integrated circuits, biomedicine, and digital technology in order to enhance technological cooperation with Macao, facilitate its industrial transformation and upgrading, boost development momentum, thus making greater contributions to the long-term prosperity and stability of the region, he said.

Sam expressed his sincere appreciation for the contributions of the central SOEs in helping Macao better align with the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, as well as promoting the region’s economic growth and improvement of people’s livelihoods.

He said that Macao is making every effort to promote moderately diversified economic development and is committed to further enhancing strategic alignment and deepening practical cooperation with the central SOEs.

By leveraging Macao's unique advantages and platform roles, both sides could intensify collaboration in areas such as trade and investment, technological innovation, cultural tourism, and healthcare, and join hands to expand potential cooperation and secure new cooperation outcomes, he added.

Officials from the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of the CPC Central Committee, relevant departments of the Macao SAR government and SASAC, and China Nam Kwong (Group) Company Limited were also present.
