Located in Songyuan City, Jilin Province, this project is the world's largest integrated green hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol venture, with a total investment of 29.6 billion yuan ($4.15 billion). It aims to establish 3 gigawatts of new energy generation capacity and produce 800,000 tons of green ammonia and methanol annually. Phase I includes 800 megawatts of renewable generation (750 MW from wind power and 50 MW from solar power) and a production capacity of 200,000 tons of green ammonia and methanol.
The project adopts a green power direct supply model and covers the entire industry chain, from hydrogen production and storage to the development of hydrogen-based chemicals, equipment manufacturing, and R&D. It pioneers globally advanced technologies such as direct renewable power supply and new hydrogen storage methods, which resolve the challenge of coupling intermittent renewable power with stable chemical production, enabling cross-industry integration of electricity, hydrogen, and ammonia/methanol sectors. The project provides a replicable and scalable model for the commercial application of green hydrogen in China.
Once operational, the project will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 1.47 million tons annually, promote local consumption and high-value conversion of green electricity, strengthen national energy security, and accelerate the large-scale development of China’s green hydrogen and chemical industries.
