Zhang Yuzhuo Meets with Professor Sun Dong, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry of HKSAR

Zhang Yuzhuo, Chairman of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC), met with Professor Sun Dong, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government, in Beijing on August 19. The two sides exchanged views on deepening cooperation in technological innovation and industrial development.

Zhang said that in recent years, central state-owned enterprises (SOEs) have thoroughly studied and implemented the important discourses of Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, on work related to Hong Kong and Macao, attaching great importance to investment and development in Hong Kong.

He said that central SOEs have continuously strengthened resource integration and innovation platform construction, injecting fresh momentum to Hong Kong’s innovation and sci-tech development.

Zhang emphasized that going forward, SASAC will encourage central SOEs to support Hong Kong in building itself into an international innovation and sci-tech hub. Adhering to market-oriented and law-based principles, efforts will be focused on strategic emerging industries and future industries, in order to continuously deepen and expand sci-tech and innovation cooperation with Hong Kong and jointly foster and strengthen new quality productive forces, he said.

He added that SASAC will further promote the efficient alignment of Hong Kong’s advantageous innovative resources with the industrial application scenarios of central SOEs, and strengthen the linkage between basic research, technological development and industrial incubation, thereby contributing to Hong Kong’s deeper and better integration into the nation’s technological innovation system.

Sun expressed heartfelt gratitude for the long-standing support of central SOEs for Hong Kong’s technology and innovation development. Noting that Hong Kong is striving to build an international innovation and technology hub, he expressed the hope to strengthen planning alignment and industrial collaboration with central SOEs, with focus on strategic emerging and future industries such as life and health, artificial intelligence and robotics, microelectronics and smart devices, and digital transformation.

Sun also said that Hong Kong is ready to enhance cooperation with central SOEs in capital, talent, and research and development, promote the efficient flow of innovative factors and the commercialization of research outcomes in key areas, and jointly build a high-level innovation ecosystem, so as to turn the HKSAR into a global innovation hub.
