Eighty years ago, on the Longdong Plateau, Chinese petroleum pioneers used abacuses to measure rock pressures and mules to transport wooden drills, successfully drilling China’s first modern oil well.
Eighty years later, Dongfang Electric Corporation (DEC) has revolutionized drilling with its intelligent deep-earth drilling rig, capable of reaching over 12,000 meters. This advanced technology combines robotic technology and AI for automated operations, enhanced by mechanical vision and LiDAR for efficient human–machine collaboration. With this breakthrough, China has become the third country in the world to possess both the specialized equipment and the technology required for a continental drilling program at a 10,000-meter level.
