Ton-Level eVTOL Aircraft Completes First Offshore Delivery

Updated: August 08, 2025

China’s CarryAll, a domestically produced ton-level electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, achieved a milestone by conducting its first material transport flight from Shenzhen to an offshore oil platform on August 3. The breakthrough was confirmed by the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), one of three collaborators in the joint initiative.

This breakthrough innovates the maritime supply model and represents a key step forward in China’s application of low-altitude logistics in sea-land scenarios.

The eVTOLs, known as “flying cars,” play a vital role in the emerging low-altitude economy. Traditionally, CNOOC’s offshore oil platforms  depended on ships for material supply, a slow and inefficient method  for urgent delivery tasks. While helicopters were used for emergencies,  their operational costs were notably high.

This trial flight successfully combined cutting-edge aviation technology, mature operational experience, and real-world offshore operational needs, creating a closed-loop application of “development + operation + scenario” for low-altitude logistics. It marks a breakthrough in the delivery of long-distance, low-altitude, emergency material transport and offshore facility inspections, showcasing the immense potential of low-altitude technologies to empower traditional energy sectors.

During the trial, the aircraft completed key test subjects including vertical takeoff and landing, hovering and long-distance cross-sea flight, proving its technical feasibility and operational reliability in offshore oil industry applications.

In terms of flight support, CNOOC, in collaboration with CITIC Offshore Helicopter Co., Ltd., meticulously planned the takeoff points and flight paths, utilizing smart digital tower systems to ensure smooth flight operations.

With the continued growth of the low-altitude economy and advancements in eVTOL technology, eVTOLs are expected to become a revolutionary solution for offshore platforms, facilitating efficient personnel rotation, emergency medical rescue, and rapid delivery of high-value components and materials.
