In the first seven months this year, China Eastern Air Holding Co., Ltd. (China Eastern) has launched 14 new international and regional routes, bringing its total number to 225 — the highest among Chinese airlines.
Headquartered in Shanghai, the airline capitalizes on the city’s position as China’s busiest aviation hub, boasting over 100 million annual passengers. Last year Shanghai Pudong International Airport was also ranked among China’s top airports by passenger volume.
Since 2023, China Eastern has rapidly resumed and expanded international operations, with a focus on emerging markets and long-haul routes. The airline plays a vital role in supporting Shanghai’s international shipping center development.
During the busy summer travel season, China Eastern added several new routes to Europe. On July 17, the airline launched a new Shanghai–Copenhagen service to mark the 75th anniversary of China–Denmark diplomatic ties. Other new routes include the Shanghai Pudong–Milan, and Shanghai Pudong–Geneva — the first direct flight operated by a Chinese airline between Shanghai and Geneva.
To date, China Eastern serves 15 European cities, including Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Madrid, London, and Rome.
