On July 29, Dalian COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co., Ltd. (DACKS), a subsidiary of China COSCO SHIPPING Corporation Limited (COSCO SHIPPING Group), finished the construction of a 309,000 DWT LNG dual-fuel very large crude carrier (VLCC) and held its christening ceremony. The vessel is dubbed “ENERGIA VIKING”.

This pioneering vessel represents a remarkable feat as the first of its kind, entirely conceived and constructed by DACKS. Notably, the ship boasts two 5,100-cubic-meter Type C LNG cryogenic storage tanks, the world’s largest for vessels of its class, with an impressive range of up to 19,000 nautical miles, which is nearly enough to circle the equator.
Relying on the dual-fuel main engine, generator and boiler system, combined with advanced technologies, the ship’s carbon dioxide emissions are significantly reduced. In terms of operation, the vessel is equipped with a “self-balancing reliquefaction” device, which can condense and recover LNG fuel vapor, improving the economic efficiency of ship operation while having multiple advantages such as environmental protection and safety. The ship also pioneered the “IKOI Space” crew community, including a cinema, swimming pool, book bar, basketball court and quiet reading area, turning the deep-sea giant wheel into a “livable oasis”.
