China Eastern Launches Shanghai–Copenhagen Route

Updated: July 23, 2025

On July 17, China Eastern Airlines flight MU707 departed from Shanghai Pudong International Airport, carrying 234 passengers on its inaugural journey to Denmark’s capital, Copenhagen. The launch of the Shanghai–Copenhagen route marks the official opening of a new air corridor between China and Denmark.

Coinciding with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Denmark, the route serves as a fast and efficient channel that will further promote bilateral exchanges, strengthen mutual understanding, and deepen cooperation.

Earlier that day a grand launch ceremony was held at Terminal 1 of Shanghai Pudong International Airport. Upon touchdown in Copenhagen, the local airport staff welcomed the aircraft with a symbolic water salute, signifying the utmost respect in aviation traditions. To enhance the inaugural flight experience, China Eastern Air Holding Co., Ltd. (China Eastern) thoughtfully curated specially designed cultural gifts for passengers, adding a touch of charm to the journey.

The route is operated under flight numbers MU707 and MU708. From July 17, flights will operate three times a week on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. As of September 24, service will increase to four weekly flights, with departures on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

China Eastern operates this route with Airbus A330 wide-body aircraft, equipped with high-speed inflight Wi-Fi to ensure passengers enjoy seamless internet connectivity throughout the journey.

To mark the route’s launch, China Eastern partnered with Shanghai Jiushi Group to offer inbound passengers on flight MU708 a complimentary “Shanghai Pass” card. This physical smart card can be used for payment across Shanghai’s public transport network, major tourist attractions, cultural venues, shopping centers, supermarkets, and convenience stores. As an innovative service platform that integrates transportation, tourism, and cultural experiences, the card aims to enhance the travel experience for international visitors by offering a “one-card-for-all” solution. It not only addresses real needs in mobility and spending, but also serves as a unique window into Shanghai’s urban charm and Chinese culture.
