The Yuedong Bridge, a key component of the Yuedong Interchange connection line on the Hangzhou–Shaoxing section of the Hangzhou–Ningbo Expressway, has recently opened to traffic. This milestone project was jointly undertaken by China Railway Hi-Tech Industry Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Railway Engineering Co., Ltd.

The Yuedong Bridge, a pinnacle of engineering excellence in Zhejiang, is the largest cable-stayed bridge being constructed. Spanning 800 meters, this marvel boasts a 400-meter main span supported by a dual-tower, double-plane steel-concrete composite cable-stayed structure. Its north and south pylons, each about 143 meters tall, showcase innovative design with small-radius, multi-curvature full cross-section.

Inspired by grains of rice and fish — symbols of the region’s identity as the “land of fish and rice” — the pylons adopt a graceful, water droplet-shaped form that blends aesthetic elegance with structural innovation.

The opening of the Yuedong Bridge will significantly enhance regional traffic capacity, enabling a “30-minute urban commute” and “10-minute expressway access” within Shaoxing. It will strengthen connectivity between Yuecheng District and the Binhai New Area, promote the integration of industrial and urban resources and boost Shaoxing’s economic growth and urban development.
