[Common Development, Common Prosperity] Genertec Empowers Kazakhstan with Infrastructural Development

Updated: June 19, 2025

Since 2017, Genertec Xinxing, a subsidiary of China General Technology (Group) Holding Co Ltd (Genertec), has played a significant role in developing three major national highway projects in Kazakhstan, including the Astana Southwest Ring Road, the Merke–Burylbaital Highway, and the Kalbatau–Maikapshagai Highway.

With a total length of 715 kilometers, these projects stand as key examples of synergy between China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and Kazakhstan’s “Nurly Zhol” (Bright Path) economic policy.

These infrastructure projects have significantly improved Kazakhstan’s transportation network and boosted regional connectivity, while also promoting economic development and enhancing the country’s role in building a shared future under the BRI framework.

Building high-quality roads with Chinese standards

The Astana Southwest Ring Road project began construction in December 2017 and was completed in November 2019 — four months ahead of schedule. Despite challenging conditions, the project team maintained international construction standards and achieved a complete ring road system for Astana, easing city traffic, enhancing logistics efficiency, and supporting the capital’s growth.

The Merke–Burylbaital Highway, with a length of 262 kilometers in Zhambyl Region, has already opened to traffic, with finishing work ongoing. The Kalbatau–Maikapshagai Highway (415 km) in East Kazakhstan Region is under phased construction, with two sections operational and full completion expected by the end of 2025.

Fulfilling social responsibilities abroad

Alongside construction, the project teams have actively engaged in public welfare efforts. In Astana, project team cleared snow in winter and built flood embankments and rural access roads.

Since 2019, the Merke–Burylbaital project has supported local schools through donations of books and educational supplies. In 2023, project teams provided emergency rescue services during floods and snowstorms, assisting stranded vehicles and people. In 2024, during severe floods in East Kazakhstan, the team from Kalbatau–Maikapshagai project dispatched over 70 machines and thousands of tons of materials to repair damaged infrastructure and conduct flood relief work.

These actions reflect Genertec Xinxing’s commitment to its mission and its dedication to building a community with a shared future for mankind. The company has won the trust of local communities and helped strengthen the image of Chinese enterprises in Kazakhstan.
