On March 28, at 12:50 p.m. local time, a powerful 7.9-magnitude earthquake struck near Mandalay, Myanmar. The quake’s epicenter was just 11 kilometers away from the China-Myanmar project department of the Hebei Petro China Central Hospital, operated by Genertec Gem Flower Healthcare, a subsidiary of China General Technology (Group) Holding Co., Ltd.
At the time of the quake, some employees of the client unit were resting, while others were engaged in a video conference with colleagues in Beijing. Within moments of the tremor, staff from the project department coordinated the evacuation of all personnel to safe, open areas. The process was carried out promptly and in an orderly manner.
Following a second aftershock, two on-duty doctors retrieved emergency medical kits and set up a temporary outdoor medical station. They provided first aid to Chinese and Myanmar personnel who sustained minor injuries during the quake.
In preparation for potential overnight stays outdoors, the team assembled essential supplies such as insect repellent and commonly used medications. Their efforts helped ensure basic health protection for all personnel on site.
Upon receiving updates from the project team, Liang Geqing, the hospital’s deputy director, instructed the team to prioritize epidemic prevention. Key measures included site disinfection, water quality monitoring, and preparedness for diseases such as cholera, malaria, and dengue fever. Liang also emphasized the need to restrict non-essential movement and stock adequate medical and epidemic prevention materials, in anticipation of a prolonged post-disaster response period.
The project team adhered strictly to hospital directives and the client’s emergency protocols. The response demonstrated the project team’s professionalism and the broader commitment of Chinese central state-owned enterprises to fulfill their responsibilities in overseas operations — providing practical assistance and supporting local communities during emergencies.
