This achievement marks a significant breakthrough in the integrated development of China’s marine economy.
A team of authoritative experts conducted an in-depth onsite inspection and a rigorous evaluation of the platform’s performance. They concluded that the project not only exceeded the research objectives and acceptance criteria outlined in the project plan, but also successfully completed the construction of the demonstration prototype, aquaculture operations, and power generation. With its high level of innovation, the platform provides valuable experience for integrating offshore wind power and deep-sea aquaculture, setting a major example for the global development of the marine economy.
Located at the Nanri Island in Putian, Fujian Province, the “Guoneng Shared” is equipped with a 4-megawatt floating wind turbine and an intelligent deep-sea aquaculture cage capable of raising 50,000 deep-sea fish.
The project achieved breakthroughs in several key technologies, including basic performance analysis of the three-column semi-submersible wind turbine with integrated cage, mooring system analysis, and dynamic cable analysis.
The R&D team pioneered and implemented an integrated structure combining a semi-submersible floating wind turbine with an aquaculture cage, establishing a set of farming processes compatible with floating wind turbines. This success has created a new model of coordinated development, combining “green power” and “blue granary,” where wind power supports aquaculture, and aquaculture enhances energy output.
Since its commissioning, the “Guoneng Shared” has demonstrated outstanding performance, with wind turbine reliability exceeding 95 percent. During the strong wind season, it set a record of 120 consecutive hours of full-capacity power generation. Each aquaculture cycle can generate fishery revenue worth several million yuan, truly achieving a dual harvest of electricity and fish. Moreover, the platform has withstood multiple typhoons, showcasing excellent stability and reliability.
