CSSC Delivers World’s Largest Multi-Purpose Pulp Carrier

Updated: March 11, 2025

The world’s largest multi-purpose pulp carrier, the 84,500-ton CSPC HORIZON, designed by China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC), was recently delivered in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, marking another breakthrough in China’s high-end specialized vessel construction.

The vessel has an overall length of 225 meters, a beam of 36 meters, and a deadweight of approximately 85,000 tons, with a service speed of 15.5 knots.

In addition to loading pulp, it is also suitable for transporting high-speed trains, wind power equipment, large machinery, steel coils and other goods.

The ship’s design, propeller system and electromechanical configuration have been extensively optimized to enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs. With outstanding environmental performance, the vessel is equipped with a high-pressure selective catalytic reduction system and an open-loop scrubber, meeting Phase III Energy Efficiency Design Index standards and achieving a carbon emissions level 50 percent below the baseline. Additionally, it has obtained methanol-ready and decarbonization-ready class notations, laying a solid technical foundation for future low-carbon fuel transition.
