Since the beginning of the year, China’s offshore and onshore oilfields have achieved remarkable production breakthroughs, laying a solid foundation for energy security and supply stability.
Penglai 19-3 Oilfield Area makes breakthrough in oil production
Shortly after the Spring Festival, the successful commissioning of Well H25 led to a significant breakthrough in the Penglai 19-3 Oilfield Area 5/10 Development Project, undertaken by China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) Tianjin branch, with daily crude oil output exceeding 2,000 cubic meters.
The project has overcome complex geological challenges through optimized drilling, completion techniques, and enhanced oil well management, significantly improving production efficiency.
Wushi Oilfield Cluster achieves crude oil exports of 126,000 cubic meters
Meanwhile, the Wushi Oilfield Cluster has completed four crude oil exports totaling 126,000 cubic meters, with daily crude output of 3,600 cubic meters. It has also delivered over 3,700 cubic meters of liquefied petroleum gas and 8,900 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas, supporting clean energy supply. Additionally, its solar power project has generated over 81,000 kilowatt-hours since the start of the year.
Ultra-deepwater gas field Shenhai Yihao surpasses 10 billion cubic meters
At the end of January, CNOOC announced that China’s first independently developed ultra-deepwater gas field, Shenhai Yihao, or Deep Sea No.1, has surpassed 10 billion cubic meters in total natural gas production, along with over 1 million cubic meters of condensate output. In 2024, the field produced more than 3.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas, maintaining an annual output above 3 billion cubic meters for three consecutive years.
With the integration of its second-phase project, Shenhai Yihao has evolved into a massive oil and gas production hub, incorporating an onshore terminal, floating production platforms, jacket platforms, subsea production systems and long-distance underwater pipelines.
The gas field has also pioneered digitalization and smart technologies, establishing a sea-land integrated communication network and an intelligent monitoring system. By leveraging digital twin models and simulation platforms, operators can monitor real-time field conditions, forecast production trends, and optimize extraction strategies to maintain high production efficiency.
Xijiang 30-2B platform: 100 days of high-performance operations
On January 29, the Xijiang 30-2B platform celebrated its 100th day of operation, achieving a cumulative crude oil output of over 30,000 tons. Despite the Spring Festival, two new wells were successfully commissioned. The platform has already brought five wells online, with annual production expected to exceed 1 million tons, strengthening energy supply for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Haiyang Shiyou 115 completes first crude oil export of the year
On February 3, the floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel, Haiyang Shiyou 115, completed its first crude oil export of the year, shipping approximately 315,000 barrels.
To ensure smooth operations, the team conducted rigorous equipment checks and quality assessments. Since its deployment, the FPSO has handled 779 shipments, exporting 286 million barrels of crude oil.
Panhe gas field hits record production
In early 2025, Panhe gas field, operated by China United Coalbed Methane Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of CNOOC, achieved a record-breaking five consecutive months of maintaining a daily gas output of 1.2 million cubic meters, marking a historic high. As China’s first coalbed methane demonstration project, the gas field has steadily increased production over the past 20 years. It continues to enhance efficiency through negative pressure extraction, precision well management and multi-strategy coal dust control.
