Ansteel Advances Green and Intelligent Transportation with New Hybrid Locomotives

Updated: February 07, 2025

The first batch of CN-10AH hybrid diesel-electric locomotives has been delivered for use at Ansteel Group Corporation Limited (Ansteel), marking a significant advance in the company’s railway traction equipment technology and a major step toward green, low-carbon and high-efficiency smart transportation.

In recent years, Ansteel has increased investment in technological innovation and green transformation, actively exploring new technologies and equipment in the railway transportation sector.

By leveraging the National Railway Administration’s policy on phasing out old diesel locomotives, Ansteel became the first company to receive national subsidies for this initiative.

Developed in collaboration with CRRC Dalian Locomotive & Rolling Stock Co., Ltd., the first batch of hybrid locomotives offers significant advantages over traditional diesel engines in both performance and environmental protection.

The new locomotives feature an advanced dual-power system combining a diesel engine and a battery pack, with an integrated control unit that enables automatic switching between fuel and electric power modes based on usage scenario. Fuel efficiency is increased by over 30 percent, while noise levels are reduced by more than 80 percent during electric operation.

The batteries are capable of withstanding high and low-temperature conditions, with a thermal management system that ensures cooling or heating between -40°C and +40°C. The locomotives are also equipped with an automatic fire suppression system and a battery management system that monitors parameters such as voltage and temperature to ensure safe operation.

The new locomotives will significantly reduce exhaust emissions, improve air quality in and around the factory, and contribute to China’s “dual-carbon” goals.

Ansteel plans to introduce 20 more hybrid locomotives by this year. With the official deployment of hybrid locomotives, Ansteel will continue to accumulate operational experience, optimizing transportation organization and management, and advancing the green and intelligent transformation of railway transportation.
