Spanning approximately 170 kilometers, the Link begins in the capital city Dhaka, crosses the Padma Bridge, and extends southwest to Jessore. Designed for both passenger and freight transport, the railway boasts a maximum speed of 120 km/h.
The project was completed in three sections: Dhaka to Mawa, Mawa to Bhanga, and Bhanga to Jessore.

The Padma Bridge severs as a critical component of the rail link and is the single largest bridge project to be undertaken by a Chinese company overseas in terms of both scale and investment.
Located downstream of the Padma River, the main structure is a 6.15-kilometer-long double-deck steel truss bridge. The upper deck accommodates a four-lane highway, while the lower deck supports a single-track railway.
Completed in June 2022 after eight years of construction, the bridge’s road section marked the end of reliance on ferries for travel across the Padma River. This milestone earned the bridge the endearing title of "Dream Road" among the Bangladeshi people.
