The length of 3,046 kilometers represents the circumference of the Taklimakan Desert. Over the past 40 years, thanks to the Three-North Shelterbelt Forest Program (TSFP), the world's largest afforestation program to tackle desertification in China, a green belt stretching 2,761 kilometers has been established around the Taklimakan Desert.

By the end of 2023, there were still 285 kilometers of blank areas to be filled. After the arduous efforts of builders including China Railway Construction Corporation Limited, the task of connecting these blank areas was successfully completed on November 28. A green belt has been built through the Taklimakan Desert.
